Ceramic Painting: Painting on Porcelain and Ceramics
How do you paint on ceramics and porcelain?
To make it durable and correct, you paint on your mug, bowl or other item when it is so-called "scrøjbränd". This means that the clay has been fired in the kiln once but must be fired once more. The colors we use at our painting events are real ceramic glaze and melt into a glassy surface when fired in our kiln (at 1000°).
Can you paint ceramics at home?
Yes! If you buy a ceramic painting kit from us! It will be real ceramic that is durable and can withstand daily use. Painting with, for example, porcelain pens or other paints that do not require firing in a ceramic kiln will have less durability. Acrylic paint and spray paint can be used to paint on porcelain but will not last long and is not food safe.
Do you paint on porcelain?
No, porcelain is one of three different types of ceramics and the one we use here is called earthenware. They have slightly different looks, while porcelain is very white and elegant, earthenware is a little, a little rougher in character. That said, the entire surface of what you paint here is glazed so everything is shiny and smooth.
