Frequently asked questions about our courses
Can I book a private lesson?
Yes! Read more about our private group bookings .
Can I take my things home right away?
Unfortunately no! The clay you have turned with needs time to dry, then the items need to be shipped, which means we tidy up the underside of your creations. After additional drying time, the clay needs to be fired, then glazed in the color you have desired and then fired once more. Your creations are usually ready for pickup after a month. If you are curious, you can read more about the whole process here .
How much does a spinning course cost?
Our spinning courses usually cost 1150 SEK/person when it is a trial session. Sometimes we have slightly longer courses and then it is cheaper per session.
How do you learn to turn and how long does it take?
A first step is to take a few courses to get a handle on the different techniques. It is quite difficult to turn so it takes a lot of practice before you get what you want. Many people feel that they do not develop as quickly as they would like when they take a course so it can be more effective to become a member of a ceramics studio! We offer memberships for turning places and table places. Read more here if you are interested. How long it takes to learn depends on many different things but usually it takes maybe 5-10 times before you feel that it starts to get a little easier and that you create what you plan.
What is the easiest thing to spin as a beginner?
The first few times you try turning, it often turns out a little bit wrong. The most common, and easiest, is probably creating small bowls. Getting high walls on your creation is one of the most difficult parts, so making mugs or vases is usually challenging for a beginner.
What is needed to spin at home?
To turn at home, you need a turning wheel but also a way to handle water residues as clay should not be poured down the drain. It is also very important to clean up properly after yourself. Dust from clay is not good to breathe in. Even if you can turn at home, the clay requires firing in a kiln. If you do not have access to one yourself, there are workshops that can let you rent their kiln.
